Pandukeshwar

Pandukeshwar is a sacred pilgrimage destination situated on the route to Badrinath in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand at an elevation of 1,829 meters. According to Hindu beliefs, this is the place where King Pandu, the father of the Pandavas from the Mahabharata, worshipped Lord Shiva. Pandukeshwar is renowned for its spiritual significance and ancient temples. The place is home to two famous temples — Yogadhyan Badri Temple, which is one of the revered Sapta Badri temples, and the ancient Lord Vasudev Temple. It is believed that King Pandu installed the bronze idol of Lord Vishnu in the Yogadhyan Badri shrine. During winters, when Badrinath Temple remains closed due to snowfall, the Utsava-murti (festival idol) is worshipped here. The Lord Vasudev Temple is also believed to have been built by the Pandavas.
